    Laser Type

Different types of material require different laser types, and each laser type has a different wavelength. For metal materials like stainless steel, aluminum, gold, and silver, a fiber laser with a 1064nm wavelength works the best. For non-metal materials like wood, leather, 9.3um or 10.6um CO2 lasers are suggested. For fragile and heat-sensitive materials like plastic, glass, and crystal, 355nm ultraviolet lasers is the best choice.

Now you probably have decided the laser type you need. You could move to the sub-categories to learn more specific guides for different types of laser engravers and markers.

CO2 Laser Engraver & Marker Buyer Guides.

UV Laser Engraver & Marker Buyer Guides.

    Laser Power

Laser power means the highest average output power of the laser generator. 20W, 30W, 50W, 60W, 100W, and 150W are the available laser powers for Fiber and CO2 laser engravers and markers. and for UV laser, 3W, 5W, 10W, 15W, and 20W are mostly selected laser powers.

The higher power will cause a stronger effect on the materials and help to improve efficiency together with a higher-speed galvo scanner. The laser generator normally accounts for 50-70% cost of the total machine. Choosing the right laser power is very essential.

    Max. Scanning Speed

Scanning speed is the maximum moving speed of XY motor inside galvo scanner. 6000mm/s is the standard speed and 12000mm/s is the high speed. A faster-speed galvo scanner plus a higher-power laser are the keys to high efficiency.

    Max. Scanning Size

Scanning size is the maximum size that the laser could engrave or mark. This specification is related to the F-theta focusing lens installed. Lens with 110mm*110mm, 170mm*170mm, 220mm*220 and 300mm*300mm scanning size are the most popular options. The lens with a larger scanning size will cause a larger focused beam diameter size. Having two or three lenses is always suggested.

    Control System

The control system is consist of controller and operation software. The controller connects with the scanning system(Galvo Scanner + F-theta Lens), laser generator, and other hardware. EZCAD2 and EZCAD3 software are used to make designing and set processing parameters.

LMC series controller is compatible with EZCAD2 and DLC series controller works with EZCAD3.

  • What are the Differences Between Laser Engraving & Marking?

Laser marking is also called laser printing, laser coding, laser labeling, etc. It uses laser beams to remove a specific portion of the material to achieve the target effect like logo, image, text, and code on the surface of the material. It typically uses a low-power laser and the processing time is short because it only processes one or two times.

Compared with marking, laser engraving takes a much longer time, because it processes multiple times. And it requires mid or high laser power and faster scanning speed to improve efficiency, which of course will cost more.

  • How to Operate a Laser Engraving & Marking System?

After the machine arrived in your office, please follow the steps to make it work.

    1. To save shipping costs, the machine probably is disassembled. This only takes 3 to 5 minutes to install with instructions.

    2. Connect the machine with AC 110V/220V power, and turn on the machine via switches in order.

    3. Copy the program and other files to your PC. After the driver is installed, open the software and load the calibrated file.

    4. Find the focus by adjusting the Z lift.

    5. Make a new design or import data that you would like to engrave or mark, then set proper processing parameters like power, speed, etc.

  • What is the Price or Cost of a Laser Engraver & Marker?

A laser engraving or marking machine could either be a high-tech device or an affordable hobby machine. The following factor determines the cost of the machine made in China as well as the selling price. And some tips that help to cut down costs for you are at the end.

    • Laser Power

The laser generator covers 35%-80%+ of the total cost of a laser engraving or marking machine. The percentage gets larger when the power is higher. For example, A very basic 20W laser engraving or marking machine costs around 1200USD while the 20W laser generator costs around 450USD. And the price of a 100W machine is around 4500USD, and the 100W laser costs around 3500USD. Finding the suitable power for your task is the best way to cut down the cost.

    • Brand of Parts

For all main parts, there are Chinese, German, US brands. China-made parts are mostly used and work great for 95%+ laser engraving or marking applications. Most importantly, it is always 50-70% cheaper than US and German brands.

    • Purchase Quantity

As we all know, there is always a retailing and wholesaling price. Normally, if the quantity of single order is over 5 units, a wholesaling price is negotiable with most China laser engraving or marking machine manufacturers. If you have a plan to buy 5 units or more, find a reliable supplier and place them all into one order.

    • Shipping Cost

The shipping fee fluctuates a lot from country to country. Asian and Oceanian countries are cheaper as it is closer to China. And European and American (North and South) countries are similar.

Also, the shipping charges are according to the higher value between actual weight and volumetric weight. The volumetric weight formula is (Length cm x Width cm x Height cm)/5000.
In these terms, having one compact-size and light-weight laser engraving or marking machine is very essential. The weight of the JCZ MINI machine is as low as 5Kgs.

And different shipping methods always affect the shipping cost. Air shipping takes around 3-7 days and sea shipping need 15-50 days based on country. For chargeable weight lower than 200Kgs, both methods are with similar costs. For weight over 200Kgs, the sea shipping method may save 10%-50%.

In conclusion, always ask your supplier to offer several shipping proposals and choose the right one for yourself. It is not suggested to find a carrier on your own cause China machine exporters like JCZ always get lower pricing from international logistic companies.

    • VAT and Tariff

For laser engraving and marking machines, the tariff rate could be found on your local customs website with HS code 8456110090.

    • After-sales Service

For after-sales service, there are mainly two sections. One is repairing and another one is technical support. The engraving and marking machine are very stable now, it is rarely broken during the warranty period. If it is not under warranty, You need to cover the shipping costs of broken parts to China and there may be a repairing charge if it is not under warranty.

For technical support, most of the small companies do not have a support team in China. Having a professional support team is not easy for most laser machine companies especially when machines are sold at a very low price. JCZ is offering a very competitive price as well as excellent support with more than 100+ multilingual R&D and support engineers.

Hope the contents above solved all your questions. If you have any other questions, feel free to contact us. We have been in the industry for 18 years and are capable of offering full aspect solutions for your laser business.
